LAST TAIL - Episode 28: Boy Meets Girl

 Their eyes met.

Advrik stood, nearly slackjawed at the sight that--literally--lay before him. Sprawled out atop the sunbathed boulder for which he, too, had rested numerous times, was the vixen for whom he'd subconsciously pined. The sunbeam shone down, illuminating the gentle purple color of her fur to near-blinding levels. Her jet-black hair was in stark contrast against the light.

Even if he wanted to, he wouldn't have been able to pull his eyes away from the pink gems that sat behind her petite muzzle, unblinking and seemingly in as just as much a trance as he was.

The image Brigid painted as her body remained motionless atop the rock was something the wolf knew he'd never, ever forget.

It'd been nearly four months since that fateful, painful meeting at the snack table, never once laying eyes on her since. He'd almost begun to question whether those events even happened and if his memory was misremembering her.

The notion that his mind had created a treasure of lavender and strawberries so unbelievably beautiful that the actual reality of things could never possibly live up to the image of her in his head had crossed his mind numerous times.

But alas, there she was, much the same way he had remembered her. Those pink, strawberry-colored eyes, the purple lavender fur, that long jet-black hair, and the feathered bangs over her right eye. She'd been right at home at a My Chemical Romance concert in 2008, he thought.

The only difference with her now versus that first night was her clothing: Now she wore a pair of tight-fitting shorts and a black tank top that, which he didn't realize nor particularly even had time to take notice of during their constant chatter, was that her breasts were much more prominent than he'd imagined. Even tucked into the sports bra, a fox with such an impressive bust was an extreme rarity.

Finally, there was a shirt hanging off her shoulders that shared the two same colors, black and pink, with the long-sleeved striped shirt she wore that night.

Time had felt as if it had come to a crawl. He'd not expected to see another beast dwelling about in his secret spot, let alone Brigid, of all people.

The flow of time returned to normal as Brigid corrected herself, pulling the black and pink plaid shirt up over her shoulders and covering her chest with the rest after having noticed the wolf's eyes wandering.

She couldn't help but feel the corners of her mouth curl back into just the tiniest smile, having felt the gaze of her longtime object of desire for the first time.

A gaze that, from what all she could tell, had been one just as full of shock and astonishment. The privacy of the stream within the thicket had been trampled upon; an assumed secret was a secret no more. But it was a secret she felt content sharing with him.

Brigid swung her legs around, dangling them over the side of the boulder. She kicked them back and forth in a childlike manner, her paws four or five inches away from the pebbled riverbed.

"Well," She said, finally breaking the stupified silence that had lingered for far too long. "I guess the secret is no longer a secret now, huh?"

The wolf shook his head in agreement. "And here I thought I was the only one that knew of this place."

His voice, the deep but not too deep cadence. Having to listen to the baritone, sometimes the gravel-textured voice of Eligh all the time, the wolf sounded like the smoothest, creamiest cheesecake she'd ever heard or eaten, or whatever!

Her thoughts were racing a mile a minute at the sight and sound of the wolf for whom she'd, though to no fault other than her own, experienced a modicum of mental anguish throughout the summer.

She wanted to speak more, but she couldn't eke out the words. The sight of him, the sound of his voice. Having longed for him to occupy her senses again after so long was too much to bear.

She felt like a teenager again, the hormones rushing and making her feel awkward as shit.

Advrik double-tapped the opened screen on his phone, sending the device back into sleep mode and into his pocket. There was a tiny, tinny-sounding voice from the earpiece that said, "You're welcome..." before it went silent.

He took a step towards her, clearing the brush that he had stood in far too long, failing to notice the poison ivy vine that had found purchase amid the branch. "So, come here often?" He couldn't believe he'd said that.

But the fox smiled and shook her head as if taking one of the cheesiest possible lines he could have spouted with good grace. She wiggled a bit in place, then replied, "Quite a bit, actually, but I feel like I should be asking you the same question. How did you find this place?"

He scratched the back of his head in relief, thankful she'd not scold him for such a stupid line. "I found it looking over some satellite maps of the area. It's a good place to catch crawfish," he said, gesturing to the waterfall and the old crab pot that sat behind it. "Plus, I'm a bit of an adventurer; Getting off the beaten trail is a bit of a hobby."

The fox focused on the area behind the slow-falling waterfall, finally seeing the old rusted cage beyond. How had she missed that?

"So... you here alone?" He asked, trying not to sound creepy but finding it hard to do when asking such a question in a secluded area like this. But she, too, took it in with good grace.

"Yeah. I mean, I wasn't. My friend Eligh was here not twenty minutes ago." She paused, probably wondering if it was too soon to be bringing up the bear.

"The town planner? I saw him across the street on my way here. Big guy..." Advrik said, taking a few more steps forward. The distance, even here, was still too much, he felt for the first time. He wanted to be close to her, to feel her presence.

"Indeed. You'd think he would be more high-strung with his job and whatnot, but the bear is so chillaxed it's unreal." The fox said with a smile, only realizing once the wolf replied that she had used the word 'chillaxed' in a sentence.

Advrik stood barely eight feet away from her now, but already, her scent began to tickle his scent receptors. She smelled sweet, like lavender, which didn't come much a surprise to Advrik. The notes of amber, however, lacing the sweeter floral scent with a sensual, mature undertone was damn near intoxicating when combined with the sight of her.

"It's good to see you again, Advrik." She finally said, his name rolling off her tongue and washing him over with the feeling of warm, spicy ambrosia that he could feel himself getting lost in if allowed.

Flustered would probably be how she'd described her emotions right now. Being alone with this wolf, one of which she constantly reminded herself these last few months that she'd only had one interaction with, brought out a side of her that had been put away when she hit her twentieth birthday.

"Listen, I need to tell you something now since I got you here; Eligh, he--"

But the wolf took another step forward and said, "He's just a friend, I know. His speech at Pride Fest made that very obvious..."

Brigid nodded and continued, "That night at the town hall meeting. I'm sorry that I seemingly brushed you off like I did. That was Eligh's first time speaking in front of a large group, and..." She paused for a moment, wondering if she should divulge such info about a friend to what was essentially a complete and total stranger.

"He has confidence and some pretty severe social anxiety issues, so he focused on me during the speech, and that allowed him to get through it. I'm kind of like his anchor or something, I don't fucking know."

Finally, her subconscious yelled; he had stepped up beside her and leaned back against the boulder. He smelled of acorns and cinnamon, oddly enough. She'd expected a more manly, musk-like odor. The scent was light, so whatever sort of cologne or body spray he used, it wasn't laid on thick or anything.

Despite his feminine aroma, she absolutely could melt into his arms right now if given the chance.

"That makes sense. Thinking back, he did seem really nervous during the opening lines of the Pride speech, but he stirred up pretty fast as it went on. He's got a heck of a voice." Said the wolf, his arms crossed and his gaze focused on the hidden pathway into this little thicket. She thought she could see him sideglancing her a few times.

Brigid took a deep breath, rolling the advice of Eligh around in her brain to not push things and allow this to develop naturally. It was just then that she also realized why he had told her not to run off just yet; This meeting wasn't by chance.

"Hey, Advrik. Can I ask you a question?"

He nodded, turning his gaze to meet hers. Those ruby-red eyes of his were mesmerizing.

"Why did you come here today?" She repositioned herself, scooting closer to the edge of the boulder.

"Why? Well, my friend and I were here the other day, and he said he might have dropped one of his ear pods somewhere. Since he was working, he asked if I could come and look for it... for him..." Realization seemingly dawned on the wolf as he uttered the last few words of his sentence. "This was a setup, wasn't it?"

Brigid nodded and smiled; the sharp, pearly white teeth that lined her muzzle glistened in the only sunlight to break through the heavy canopy above.

Advrik couldn't help but laugh. Desmond had actually gone and done something nice for him. He hadn't wanted to admit it to himself ever since that day in the cafe, having convinced himself that his infatuation with Brigid had just been a fleeting wisp of emotion. But now, being here with her again, her beautiful form reminded him of why he felt that spark initially to begin with.

Well, it certainly was more than what he tried convincing himself of otherwise.

"Eligh said that they'd hired your little friend with the fucked up nose. I bet you those two had orchestrated this." The purple fox said, her tone a mixture of amusement and realization.

"I'd kill to have heard the conversations they had about us..."

"Mh-hm, me too." She nodded, finally sliding off the rock to the pebbly ground below. Her breasts bounced lightly against the restraining fabric of her bra.

She held out her hand to Advrik and said, "Advrik, it is a pleasure to meet you once again, sir. I'm Brigid Ashtear, and I would like your... Oh shit, what do people ask for these days? Your TikTok? Discord? I don't even fucking know, it's been so long." She closed her eyes and laughed, exposing a glistening of tears in her eyes.

Advrik took her hand in his, that very same petite hand from months ago. It was so soft and delicate. Small, gripped in his own. The pads were soft and smooth compared to the grainy texture of his own.

"It is beyond a pleasure to finally remake your acquaintance, Brigid." He said, speaking in a manner that sounded foreign to his own ears. "Let's start with exchanging phone numbers first, okay?"

Brigid and Advrik walked in a single file away from the stream, him pushing the branches aside and allowing the smaller beast to slip past. She thought she sensed his eyes steal quick glances at her ass and legs, and she was okay with that. He... He was allowed to.

But until they were an actual thing and she said it was okay...

"Are you looking at my legs?" She said over her shoulder, her tone betraying her intentions.

The look of surprise that danced across the wolf's handsome face brought her a sense of joy and, oddly enough, contentment that she had been missing from her life.

He didn't try to excuse himself at all, which she liked. "Eyes slipped," he said through a little smirk, calling her flirt with a flirt of his own.
