Desmond was born to Archie and Laverne Mogu in the great state of Pennsylvania. Having grown up in the 90s, Desmond had been exposed to the then-modern golden era of cartoons via Nickelodeon. He found himself particularly fascinated by the likes of Doug and Hey Arnold!, and in his single-digit years, attempted to fashion his life after their titular characters.

As he aged and hit his teen years, genetics took hold, and he began to gain weight. Realizing the adventures he was having as a kid no longer felt acceptable as a plump, pimply-faced mole, he began to seclude himself from the world. Turning his bedroom into a den, never finding a job, and mooching off his parents into his 30s.

Through a rather dramatic (and traumatic chain of events for any other beast), Desmond found himself living in Brickhedge, taken in by the local boarding house.

Description:

Standing at three and a half feet tall, with a wide, plump oval-shaped figure. Desmond is covered in a course dark grey fur that is mottled with black splotches and a short. This covers the majority of his body and is only absent from his hands, paws, and tail, which is short, pink, and fleshy.

The only area that differs in color is that around his face where a lighter shade of grey starts from the bridge of his snout and runs up his forehead, giving the impression of a mask of some sort.

He has eight fleshy-pink wriggling tentacles at the end of his snout, the namesake of his species. Each tentacle is between 3 and 4 inches long, and he has four on each side. They're completely prehensile and can be operated with astounding precision. When Desmond's emotions run high, the tentacles react accordingly, almost with a mind of their own. Cold and hot weather also affect them.

Atop his head is an oddly enough well-groomed greyish-blonde hair. He has styled regularly in the curtain hairstyle, which is the form of self-treatment he does for himself.

Due to the nature of his species, his eyesight is naturally very poor, and so he is always wearing a thick(and what would be considered very nerdy) pair of eyeglasses.

I knew right from the get-go that Desmond was going to be a Star-Nosed Mole. The species doesn't get the love and admiration it so rightfully deserves. I mean that's the case for moles in general and is reflected in the way his species is viewed by others in my version of Earth, but the star-nosed variety in particular is often seen as revolting by anyone that's never seen one before, but I think the little eldritch abominations are cool looking and very unique.

Design-wise, Desmond was always going to be that nerdy, overweight kid from 90s flicks archetype. Striped shirt, denim overalls, that sort of thing., But like with Callista, I needed to do something with him that set him apart from the norm and defied the status quo, so I made him intelligent and more bully-ish instead
