Rik the Wolf :: Prologue Act 1: When the Egg Dropped

The nightmare began when the first roboticized animal was unleashed onto the world. At first, the inhabitants of the planet Mobius were confused—rightfully so. But that confusion quickly turned to terror when more and more robots with animals trapped inside their metallic bodies started appearing.
Their presence was unsettling at first and mildly destructive at worst. Gardens were trampled, and outdoor decorations were destroyed. The Mobiuns fought back at first, freeing the animals and stopping the robots. But like the Hydra said to dwell somewhere deep in the Hidden Garden, when one robot was destroyed, two more appeared in its place!
Time went on, and the attacks became more and more dangerous—and widespread! All over the world, wildlife was disappearing, and robots were appearing in their place. The destruction moved from gardens and lawn fixtures to entire fields of crops and buildings. The robots became harder and harder to destroy as if their designs were being actively worked on on the fly. Each new wave was becoming progressively more dangerous and harder to break.
The world was in a panic, but then he appeared…

The blue streak with an attitude that was way past cool: Sonic the Hedgehog!

Together with a band of resistance fighters, Sonic and his friends smashed the robotic plague all across the land as they raced toward the heart of the scourge: Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Using intel gathered from the broken computers within the “Badniks”—as Sonic so eloquently dubbed them—the leader of the resistance and princess of the Acorn Kingdom, Sally Acorn, was able to deduce the culprit’s whereabouts.
Sonic, racing on ahead of the princess’ army, freed the various zones from the doctor’s clutches, foiling attempt after attempt to gather what remained of the local wildlife into pods. Finally, the doctor was cornered and subsequently defeated at his base within the Scrap Brain Zone, seemingly bringing an end to the war… or so they had hoped.

A short time later, along the shores of a great blue lake, a young grey wolf sat perched atop a great boulder that rolled down the way an uncountable number of years ago, likely via a river of magma while the continents were still forming.
The wolf sat cross-legged, the butt of a fishing pole wedged into the cleaved surface of the stone. He waited patiently, watching the little orange bobber float atop the gently-moving surface of Cerulean River. This wolf loved to fish, even more so than he did partaking in kung-fu training at the lakeside dojo. Self-defense had been fine and all, but the fight waged between a person and fish was real and not pretend! He’d never need all that martial arts training anyhow, especially once word of Robotnik’s defeat reached the valley.
The bobber dipped once below the surface. Twice. Then, finally, a third time. As he gripped the rod, pulling back and setting the hook, the ground shook with a ferocity, unlike anything he’d ever experienced in his eight years of life. Sure, there had been the occasional earthquake, but this wasn’t that.
And then he saw it as it slowly crested the western mountain range, rising high into the sky and blotting out the morning sun: The Death Egg had risen!

Far below the ovum-shaped death machine, the planet’s surface was scrambling in a new terror that far outweighed the robot swarm. The young wolf fled to his village, back to the presumed safety of his pack as they watched in mystified horror as the giant mustache death machine climbed higher and higher into the planet’s atmosphere.
Sight unseen from so far below, Sonic the Hedgehog was already on the move and with a secret weapon in toe: The Chaos Emeralds. These mystical stones granted the hedgehog god-like abilities while turning his fur and quills gold! An epic, harrowing battle ensued inside and outside of the Death Egg, ending in the firework show to end all firework shows as the Death Egg erupted in a gigantic ball of flames that could be seen all over the world.

But now, while the amazing heroics of the blue blur continued on and only grew more and more outrageous, the story shifts focus back to the—literal—fallout of the Death Egg as its fiery remains return to earth in an amazing spectacle of hurling fireballs and wrecked machines crashing into the planet, the biggest of which creating an impact crater big enough a whole other South Island in.
The crash had sent a shockwave all across Mobius, awakening new forms of life from the very planet itself.

It all started with a purple iridescent squid seen skimming along the water’s surface near Emerald Hill on West Side Island. The angler attempting to catch the creature lost three fishing poles and a net and still failed to bring the beast in.
The following month, a two-headed snapping turtle with a glittering shell sank a boat near Knothole Village before disappearing into the depths.
Reports of mysterious, powerful aquatic species started coming in from all over the planet in the wake of Robotnik’s spectacular defeat. And, peculiarly enough, wherever a sighting would crop up, a strange group dressed all in black would appear shortly thereafter inquiring about the beasts. The media had dubbed the new class of powerful, unidentified creatures as “Egg-sraterrestrials”, after the event that had been theorized to have made them suddenly appear.

While the reports continued to come in over the years, none were able to catch these new species for examination and proper documentation. A subject that quickly began to get overshadowed more and more as bigger, more substantial threats began to arise all over the planet.

But, the thrill of learning about these creatures had not been lost on a particular individual, for the same little wolf that had witnessed both the rise and fall of the Death Egg that fateful day all those years ago had been hard at work prepping for his big adventure.

His name was Advrik the Wolf, or just simply Rik, and he was going to hook them all!
