Continuing my Godzilla marathon with King Kong vs. Godzilla, the first and what all had assumed up until the last decade would be the last time these two would ever come face to face.
The KingGoji suit with its prominent reptile-like appearance is menacing and bulky which, to the detriment of the suit actor, really help sell the powerhouse Godzilla is. This suit ranks up there with my favorite of the era, but far from the #1 spot.
Kong's second appearance in cinema varies drastically from his for first feature film, both in design and in stature. Sizing him up was necessary in order to face off against Godzilla, and unlike in modern day when explanations for everything is needed, this just happened and that was that.
I watched the movie a lot as a kid, same with any of the films. There were a lot of cool shots and scenes that seldom were used in later movies. One such was the use of stop motion, the others were overhead shots when allowed you to see the suits from a different angle.
Another kaiju that appeared in this film was Oodaku, the giant octopus that Kong fights within the confines of the village. It's later appear in Frankenstein Conquers the Earth and get homage in Kong Skull Island!
