Game Power! Beyond Oasis #7: The Forest Shrine

Run, don't walk, in order to get...

After my short talk with the Wiseman of the mountain, I used a nearby portal that sent me back to the western beaches beside the castle. Enemy soldiers were nearby, meaning that I was likely already too late.

The cool shadows of the western forest did little to soothe my anxiousness. The sound of enemy chatter and the clash of steel on steel rang out from beyond the treeline.

Upon arriving in town, I found that everything had been boarded up before the enemy invaded. Still there was one family held up in a seaside shack. They told me of another spirit shrine to the northwest, hidden deep in the woods. There I would find a spirit capable of removing the heavy iron gate that blocked the entrance to the waterways beneath the castle.

Time was of the essence.

The forest shrine was the most confusing trial yet in my adventure in Oasis. It demanded the participation of each of the three spirits I had collected up to that point, and then some upon later revisits should I choose to return.

At the end of the shrine was a wizard sitting atop a giant orb, floating above a bottomless pit! He attacked me with balls of energy, which I could only assume was an abomination of eldrich origins. It took some careful timing, but I avoided his attacks and landed on a platform directly in front of him, and with a few well-timed slashes from my Doom Sword, the orb beneath him shattered, and...

He fell, screaming harshly as he unexpectedly plummeted to his doom. His figure quickly disappeared into the depths, his scream becoming naught but a quiet whisper until it was no longer audible.

After defeating the evil wizard, I gained access to the spirit altar where I met Bow, the spirit of plants. He joined me, and together with Dytto, Shade and Efreet, we set off to the castle to stop Silver Armlet.
